badbadbad is the first novel to come with its own YouTube playlist, a chapter by chapter soundtrack of nearly one hundred songs that correspond to references in the text. Think of the music as a post-textual portal into JAG's twisted universe, an aural interpretation of the story's narrative arc, or just some way-out spin-doctoring for your listening pleasure. The tune selection spans generations and genres. Artists range from John Coltrane to Dresden Dolls, Lil Brod to Black Lips, Bill Monroe to Dead Kennedys, Johnny Cash to Slayer. Many thanks to the YouTube community for sharing all this great music.

Intro to the Narrative

Smack! JAG gets slapped when he meets a superhero who calls herself a whore. The Reverend’s wife Good Charlotte then solicits him for personal services. This leads to a gig as webmaster for First Church of the Church Before Church and the funds for an attorney to put the hurt on the ex.

The Reverend sermons: “The Value of Prudence in All Things.” JAG meets prodigal son Cyrus, a brother in music who introduces him to the local underground and the cult band Children's Crusade.

The Reverend sermons: “Radical Change: Existential Crisis?” Under pressure from Cyrus at a post-concert Playpen party, JAG blows three years of sobriety yet feels confident that everything will be alright.

With the legal system beating him down on the custody of his son, he jumps off one night outside the ex’s daddy’s place. Disturbing the peace. Trespassing. Restraining order. To cheer him up, Cyrus introduces JAG to fallenangels, an online social network for extreme desires...
